Did Nostradamus Foresee the Coronavirus in 2020?

Prophetic claims: Some people are convinced that Nostradamus predicted COVID-19 hundreds of years ago. But did he?

Although we’ve written thoroughly about several alleged seers such as Nostradamus, Baba Vanga, and Edgar Cayce, trying to understand why so many people believe in their alleged prophecies, and although we have made a great effort in explaining most of them, we are often asked about prophecies that were allegedly written down by Nostradamus.

Many news outlets have claimed over the past few months that a man called Michel de Nostredame, more popularly known as Nostradamus, prophesied the rise of the deadly Coronavirus COVID-19 hundreds of years ago in his book “Les Propheties.”

COVID-19 and Nostradamus

There is no connection whatsoever between the two, but let us explain one more time.

The world is going through a medical crisis of unseen proportions and mass hysteria. Although the disease is thought to have appeared back in November 2019, countries around the world have been unable to control the outbreak. The Coronavirus, officially known as COVID-19, has spread to all continents on Earth save for Antarctica, causing entire countries to quarantine millions of people.

The worst-hit countries are the United States, Spain, Italy, the United Kingdom, Russia, France, and Germany. In total, there are (as of writing May 8, 2020) 3,939,648 confirmed cases of COVID-19 around thew world. Doctors and scientists struggle to find a cure and vaccine for the terrifying virus that is thought to have originated in the city of Wuhan, China.

As people struggle to cope with the disease which has caused people to live in fear, some have claimed that one of the most famous prophets on Earth, Nostradamus, predicted the outbreak of Coronavirus around 500 years ago in his most famous work, Les Propheties.

There are countless conspiracy theories surrounding COVID-19 on th internet, and they are beyond bizarre, including claims of COVID-19 being somehow connected with 5G networks.

Although–luckily–not many people give in to such theories, there are many people–including many of our readers–who are puzzled by claims of Nostradamus having predicted the disease hundreds of years ago.

But not only is Nostdradmus being credited with predicting the virus, but a writer called Deal Koontz is said to have foreseen the outbreak of the Coronavirus in his book “The Eyes of Darkness” published back in 1981. Baba Vanga is also said to have foreseen the disease.

Nostradamus is one of the most famous seers on Earth, and many people maintain that the French apothecary, poet, and writer who is attributed with predicting some of the most impacting events in the history of mankind.

Those who believe in the prophetic powers of the French seer argue that Nostradamus successfully managed to predict, among other events, the following:

The Moon Apollo Moon Landing

“He will come to travel to the corner of Luna, where he will be captured and put in a strange land, The unripe fruits to be subject of great scandal, great blame, to one, great praise.”

The Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki

Near the gates and within two cities There will be scourges the like of which was never seen, Famine within plague, people put out by steel, Crying to the great immortal God for relief.

Those who subscribe to Nostradamus’ prophetic powers believe the French seer also predicted the French Revolution, the Great Fire of London, as well as the terror attacks of 9/11.

It is believed that Nostradamus’ quatrains were intentionally masked in a way that they predict the future, yet remain a profound enigma. In other words, Nostradamus purposefully masqueraded his quatrains so that his prediction could not become obvious until the events had occurred.

Believing or disbelieving his predictions is a personal point of view, even though some of them are interesting.

Did Nostradamus really predict the Coronavirus?

The Coronavirus is one such prediction that Nostradamus may have made hundreds of years ago.

In his book Les Propheties, in century V, quatrain 63, the French seer wrote:

“From the vain enterprise honour and undue complaint, boats tossed about among the Latins, cold, hunger, waves, not far from the Tiber the land stained with blood, And diverse plagues will be upon mankind.”

This particular quatrain has been interpreted as a reference to the COVID-19 outbreak, although it can be interpreted in dozens of ways. Nonetheless, followers of Nostradamus’ predictions argue this is a reference to the outbreak of the virus in Italy.

The Tiber River runs through Rome. Italy has been one of the worst-hit countries by COVID-19 in Europe with 215,858 confirmed cases. It was the epicenter of the disease in Europe.

The above is just one reference written by Nostradamus that supposedly predicted the Coronavirus.

Here’s another one. Nostradamus warned of plague in Century II, Quatrain 6:

“There will be two scourges the like of which was never seen, Famine within plague, people put out by steel, Crying to the great immortal God for relief.”

In century II, Quatrain 19, Nostradamus is also said to have written about the plague which many people argue is the coronavirus the Earth faces now.

“Newcomers, place built without defence, Place occupied then uninhabitable: Meadows, houses, fields, towns to take at pleasure, Famine, plague, war,  extensive land arable.”

Nostradamus, Coronavirus, and Conclusions

The work of Nostradamus can be interpreted in more ways than one. There isn’t a single quatrain where Nostradamus makes reference explicitly to a virus under the name coronavirus, nor does he seem to describe a plague with symptoms as those caused by the novel coronavirus.

Nostradamus’ cryptographic writing can be interpreted and adjusted to fit probably any major event in the history of mankind. This means that his predictions are either wrong translations, creative interpretations, hoax writings, or a combination of everything.

Furthermore, there have been nearly countless epidemics that have shaken the world since the first publications of Nostradamus’, work Les Propheties, and his alleged quatrains may have made reference to any of them.

There isn’t one specific quatrain that clearly makes reference to COVID-19.
