Study Reveals That Complex Alien Civilizations Likely Exist Near Milky Way’s Galactic Center

Maybe this is why we haven't been able to find them.

American scientists have found a new explanation for the fact that earthlings, despite many attempts, have not been able to establish contact with aliens. In their opinion, more than one alien race lived in the Milky Way – but scientific progress and the development of technology, led them all to death.

Did Alien Civilizations Self-Destruct Near Milky Way’s Center?

Alien civilizations may have existed in the Milky Way, however, according to the results of a recent study, they mostly perished due to their own progress. So say scientists from the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the University of California, who formulated an equation to calculate the probability of the existence of extraterrestrial civilizations.

In their opinion, intelligent life originated in the galaxy 8 billion years ago, shortly after its formation. In addition, they made calculations that confirmed their hypothesis – that scientific progress and the development of technology inevitably lead to the death of civilization. As a result, scientists say, they have found an answer to the question of why humanity cannot come into contact with aliens.

The team reworked the 1961 Drake equation to conduct the study. It was created by the scientist Frank Drake to calculate the potential number of active, capable of contacting civilizations in the Milky Way.

However, according to a new study, the previous version of the equation did not take into account developing space objects such as supernovae and exoplanets.

In addition, the researchers examined the likelihood of life at the prebiotic level, the various possible time scales for biological evolution, and the likelihood of self-destruction of complex life forms.

When it comes to self-destruction, nobody had previously considered this option.

As a result of their calculations, the researchers came to the conclusion that the most intelligent life in the galaxy is younger than 5 million years “with a parameter of possible self-destruction equal to 0 – 0.01, and at slightly higher values of this parameter.”

The study suggests that intelligent life may be encountered quite often in the Milky Way, however, the Earth is located far from the regions of its existence, and therefore efforts to search for extraterrestrial civilizations should be directed “to the inner regions of the galaxy.”

Scientists estimate that if intelligent alien life exists, then it is located at a distance of no more than 13,000 light-years from the center of the Milky Way, while the Earth is located about 25,000 light-years from the center of the galaxy.

Our Take

In a world where most scientists prefer not to discuss the possible existence of aliens, such research and claims on our own galaxy, the Milky Way, is truly out of the box. Not much has been said in response yet but I do believe that most experts would disagree with these theories.

Unfortunately, this is how the world works currently. Instead of neglecting such massive theories, we can focus our efforts on searching for remnants of these alien civilizations in the Milky Way. The worst that could happen is for us not to find anything. But what if we do?

Other than that, the general idea that aliens killed themselves with technology is quite present in the debates for our current technological advancements. Many important people have expressed their worries about the future of artificial intelligence and whether robots could one day replace us entirely.

The way I see it, we shape our own future and whether we will continue to exist is entirely up to us. Who knows, however, what capabilities technology will have in the future? Will our ambitions make us the next extinct civilization?
