Did an Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) experience anti-aircraft fire from Iran’s Navy this week? A peculiar incident involving intensive anti-aircraft activity against a luminous entity unfolded on the evening of July 12-13 above Bandar Anzali port, Guilan province. The event quickly escalated to the spotlight through viral videos.
Did the Iranian Navy attempt to shoot down a UFO?
Videos uploaded to Twitter and YouTube by users and media outlets alleged that an unidentified presence prompted Iran’s defense forces into action. Despite firing multiple rounds of anti-aircraft ammunition, the object remained intact, leading some to speculate an “invisible shield” or “force field” protected it.
While it may sound like a modern-day Battle of Los Angeles, the answer might be less fantastical than the return of indestructible UFOs. Those less eager for virality and more cautious initially suspected a simpler explanation.

Official Response: A Military Drill
Mohammad Pourkhosh Saadat, the head of the security council and governor of Bandar Anzali, chalked it up to a routine military exercise. The Navy had scheduled this drill, involving target practice with flares designed to explode before contact, simulating an aircraft navigating anti-aircraft fire.
Despite the official explanation, doubts persist. Critics argue that a flare wouldn’t act in this manner and question the decision to hold such a drill near the city. However, supporters agree with the authorities, pointing out the object’s lack of abnormal movements or maneuvers -none of the 5 observables- and its flickering, consistent with a flare’s behavior before extinguishing.
