Mr. Beast has rented out all three of the Giza pyramids for one hunded hours.
YouTuber James Stephen Donaldson, better known as MrBeast, has once again raised eyebrows with his ambitious plans. The popular content creator revealed that he has rented the Great Pyramids of Giza, gaining rare permission to explore and film inside these iconic ancient structures.
“I’m going to do a video where they let me explore anywhere I want in the pyramids for 100 hours. We’re going to sleep in the pyramids, we’re going to have them all to ourselves,” Donaldson announced during a recent podcast with Noah Lyles.
While it may sound far-fetched to rent one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, Egypt’s Ministry of Antiquities does occasionally allow private events at the pyramids for those with deep pockets and proper authorization. However, weddings and similar ceremonies remain strictly off-limits.
What MrBeast Hopes to Discover
Donaldson’s plans include venturing into areas rarely seen by the public. “I’ve never been inside [the pyramids],” he shared. “I want to just find secrets and go through all the rooms and the tombs and that kind of stuff. There are all these secret corridors deep below too. I don’t know what to expect.”
Accompanied by a government-approved tour guide, Donaldson aims to document chambers and corridors that typically remain hidden from view. The 26-year-old YouTuber expressed excitement about potentially uncovering mysteries that have eluded public attention.
A History of Controversy
While Egypt’s pyramids have been rented out for events before, MrBeast’s project has sparked a mix of curiosity and criticism. Some skeptics on social media joked about ancient curses, referencing the legendary belief that Egyptian tombs are cursed to punish intruders.
Though such curses are purely mythological, ancient tombs do sometimes harbor hazards like fungal pathogens. Historical speculation even suggests that Lord Carnarvon, a financier of the Tutankhamun tomb excavation, might have contracted a fungal infection from the tomb. However, a study examining tomb explorers found no evidence of unusually high mortality rates.
The pyramids are more than just monuments; they are a testament to human ingenuity and a rich cultural legacy. However, their management has not been without controversy. Earlier this year, plans to renovate the outer casing of the Menkaure Pyramid were canceled following public outcry. Concerns about preserving the authenticity of these historic structures remain at the forefront.
