Tens of thousands of stories of aliens visiting Earth exist, but these stories largely rely on the thinnest of assertions, and most of them have little to no evidence to support them. UFOs are another matter altogether, and here, there is evidence, some of it very hard to dismiss. The public’s fascination with UFOs has taken off over the past several years, beginning around 2017, when three declassified Navy videos surfaced showing pilots’ encounters with objects they could not identify, and since then, the conversation has gone from fringe to mainstream.
NASA, which long ago washed its hands of UFOs, has now appointed a team of scientists to study them, and the Pentagon has revamped its UFO office and is now actively studying what it calls “transmedium” objects, objects that seem to move through air and water in ways we do not understand, such as one incident that was reportedly captured off Puerto Rico.
While there are many people who claim to have seen strange things in the sky, we also have official military footage to examine now, too, and it’s also worth taking a look at what the astronauts have said, because space has no shortage of strange sightings, and some of the sightings are very odd, including some from the Apollo era.
The Apollo 8 mystery occurred while the crew was in orbit around the Moon’s far side, and they saw something on the lunar surface that they couldn’t explain, because they were on the far side of the Moon, they briefly lost contact with Houston and couldn’t report it in real time. The mission ended successfully, and it wasn’t until declassified transcripts were published later on that we learned about their brief exchange, during which, as they came back into contact, Bill Anders said he saw a strange light on the lunar surface, and “Is that a bonfire?” Frank Borman replied, to which Anders responded, “It might be campfires.” This is a bizarre piece of the UFO canon, and it’s strange to discuss lights on the far side of the moon with no photo or video to show for it, only the transcript.
The story only gets more intriguing when Apollo 11 reportedly saw something similar, and this time, there are photographs, according to author and former UK MoD UFO investigator Nick Pope, who says, “This is not a rumor, it’s not a legend, it’s a matter of fact,” and no natural explanation was ever found, and no explanation has ever been found for what the astronauts saw. Consequently, we have no answers, but new missions are heading back to the moon, and with any luck, we’ll have better data and maybe even better answers about what previous crews saw out there.
